Honda 300 trx converting to 4x4
#2
if im not mistaken all 4x4 atvs have the front drive axle comeing out the front of the engine case. you would need 1 or 2 halfs of a 4x4 engine case plus the axle, diff, and drive shafts.
its rerally just cheeper to get a 4x4 ATV

i thought so but i already have this 4 wheeler since it was new and havent put a lot of time on it and i know where its been and i like the 300's you cant beat the reliability

you would have to find and buy 2 engine halfs, then take all the transmission gears, crank, and everything els inside your engine out and switch it to the new engine halfs. your looking at more work than a rebuild, plus anything that might go wrong.
IMO its not worth it, especially if you have a good running 2wd mechine to begin with

how bout the older 300fw style 4x4... it has external shafts and a diffrent swing arm differential..(the one coming from the motor
......i have one of theese and the front drive shaft dosnt come from the engine case http://www.powersportspro.com/...ewbybrand/7/Honda.aspx
.
the link is for a parts serch ....click atv/trx300fw 97 then look at the front drive blow aparts...but for the money needed to get the parts you could pick up a used 300 4x4 unless you find a cheap junker with the parts u need

It doesn't matter what year 300 it is the left crankcase is different between a 300 & a 300FW .. You can do it without changing the left crankcase but it is quite a bit of work building a spacer the exact thickness because if not right then over time the aluminum will crack .. You will still need to change the angle drive and alternator cover ..
