Default 250ex help!!

i have a 250ex that when i start it the valves are ticking and it smokes on hard acceleration... once the motor is warmed up(20min or so) the ticking stopes and the smoking stops....the only thing i can think of is the oil pump is worn and its hard to pump the oil until its thiner.... the comp. is 175 psi.. thanks

you probably need to adjust the valves, and also the smoking, may be from the valve seals goin to pot

what year is it

did you buy it new, and have the valves ever been adjusted, my buddy has an 03 and we just adjusted the valves and they were pretty far out of wack

here's the link to a thread that talks about valves and valve seals, I know its a 400 ex but it's the same concept

worn valve guide seals will cause smoke when cold then clear up when warm.
if it continues smoking after warm up then its time to go in and do somthing ...until then ride...have fun and keep an eye on it ...you may be able to get a couple more years before the valve guide seals go to smoking all the time..and the burnt oil wont hurt much other than the spark plugs
.....and youll hear the valves if you listen for them ,but if they are abnormaly loud adjusting them isint a bad idea...and you can renew your valve guide seals while you have it apart
