this weekend me and some of my friends went riding. on of my friends have a 400ex with a fmf pipe and k&n filter. my other one has a 01 500 scrambler 4x4. off the start the scrambler had a link on the ex due to i think my friend didnt know how to drive real good. but kicking in to 3rd gear the ex just flew by the scrambler. atleast by 5 or 6 mph. but i didnt think a ex would kill a scrambler that bad.

Hey guys~
Being a Scrambler owner, I am humbly going to admit those results sound quite accurate. Today at the Lake by my house, I raced a stock 400ex. I took him off the line and for about 300 feet, but then he caught me and ever so slowly pulled ahead. I would not be surprised that a modded ex would blow away a 500 Scrambler. Ever seen an ex race a piped 400 Scrambler? It's a whole different race...ex will never be ahead!

I have a 500 Scram 4x4 and I will be the first to admit a 400ex will beat it.
But in all actuality did you really expect it not too. It is not even a fair comparison they are not even in the same class no matter what some people say. Take the 400ex and put it up against something in it's own class another true sport Bike. Right now you are comparing apples to oranges.
Now give me a sloopy trail with lots of mud and muddy hills and then compare the 2 it's not really fair because the 500 has 4x4 but do you see my point that is the scrambler's element it is good at lot's of stuff but is best at nothing that's why I bought one because my riding takes me through all the season's through a little bit of everything I ride with the 4x4,s and some times I ride with the Sport quad's.
It is perfect for me and as far has been perfect in the reliability. I have had it a little over a year and I love it.
Now if I was just riding with the sport bikes I would most likley have a 400ex.
Sorry I am a little long winded I am not flamming anyones ride because I like to ride with who ever will ride with me .............![Smile](https://atvconnection.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Have a good one

The 400ex will most definately beat a Scram500. Consider yourselves lucky to be able to race other types of quads. As for me I went aiming strait for the top: my buddy's Banshee. We have been searching the trails this year to find others wanting to race...even if it is just for fun. Till then we will keep on racing each other once or twice every ride...I may get him this spring!
By the way, I do not think that 5 or 6 mph is enough to earn the title of "killing" another quad!
