IMO $220 for a warn is an exelent buy, too bad they are normally $200-$300 more than that. price is what stops people from buying them. most of the time you cound buy 2 ebay winches for the price of one warn, granted you may be buying 2 ebay winches.</end quote></div>

$220 is what the warns should be selling for. Too bad they are raping us! But it's the price we pay for insurance. Just keep reminding yourself how much money you saved on your winch when you are walking 15 miles out of the woods with no cell service! LOL!

BTW, aren't you having problems with your viper winch?

Yeah, but you can put what cable you like on that winch and the same thing can happen. The Superwinch on Dad's ARGO did the same thing. On my WARN there is no place for the cable to get caught like it did on the Viper/SuperWinch...its a better design I think.

My WARN 2000lb winch is 10 years old and has been used regularly, sometimes improperly to get out of a jam....its a great investment.

A lot of you guys say the same thing. "You will be walking out of the woods with that low priced winch!"

Why are you riding alone anyways? If you can't get unstuck with 2 or 3 other people helping you, a Warn is not going to make a difference.

When you love the sport as much as I you every chance you get and my Warn has save my a_ _ more than just a few times and that is why I wont ride with out one. I would not take the chance of someting failing!

I ended up purchasing a viper winch. The rope that mine came with is great and is the good stuff. They are constantly making improvements on their products. From my research I think they are very comprable to a warn. I would like to have a warn but they are overpriced. For me this was the next best winch in line. Their customer service is great. I over tightend and snapped a u bolt during installation. I called and they had one out to my house in a couple of days. I got stuck 6 months ago with out a winch and it was horrific. I was a mile from home and had no help. It took me almost 45 min to get out. I knew what my next purchase was going to be.

It is rare that I have the opportunity to ride with friends, so I often ride alone. I enjoy riding alone. I know there are risks, but I don't do anything stupid, either (or atleast try not to). But that doesn't mean something unforeseen couldn't happen. That's when I rely on my equipment. But, again, anything can fail...no matter who makes it. The time I broke my steel cable on my winch I was buried in the snow trying to get up a steep, narrow ravine. I had to dig, shovel, and literally pick up my popo to turn it around and get it in a position where I could aim it downhill and get out of the hole I was in. It took me over an hour and I had bruises all over my arms from picking up the atv. I'll be the first to tell you they are fat bastards! All of my bad experiences I can blame on riding in the snow. Needless to say I am more careful riding in the snow and try to go with company. I guess my point is that any winch can fail, but atleast if I had to walk out of the woods in that situation I wouldn't be kicking myself in the a#@ for saving a few bucks on the cheaper one!

I will admit a cheep winch is better than NO winch and you buy what you can afford but someday when you are riding by yourself and need your winch the last ting on your mind is the price you payed for your winch esp if it gets you out of a bad jam!

ATV's are heavy as sin when YOU are the one pushing them around LOL. i enjoy rideing alone also, dispite the risks. last week we had a very early snow storm and the roads here in Illinois where completly unplowed! the only thing that was makeing progress in the snow was me on the foreman! I went out to college, 8miles from where i live, and the aproach to the college is a steep slope that is all iced over. i was one of the few people to make it up the aproach and to class that day.

winch wasnt messed up at the time, and i had the plow on. still did 45mph the whole way and no slipping/slideing at all. Im not sure i would be that bold without my winch though
