URGENT- 400ex question
#1
Let me get this straight.. there are 3 marks on the cam supposedly.. i only saw two and the word out when putting it back together. Someone has told me there are multiple marks on the flywheel.. I got the piston at TDC eyeballing it before the head went on and saw a mark on the flywheel.. might have been a double mark.. Put the cam in as level as i could get it with the head thinking the chain may have moved a little while installing the head.. Threw it all back together.. It runs but it doesn't have much power.. My question is.. Which mark on the flywheel am i looking for.. single or double mark, and should there be a third mark on the sprocket? I am thinking it is off maybe only one or two teeth but I am making sure I have the steps right first before i tear it apart again. It runs, rode it down the road and heard a little backfire through the carb.. putzed back home and let it be until today. Any information will greatly help. Thank you.

look throught the sight hole on the stator cover ( left side, small hole) turn the crank ( big hole under the other one) with a 17mm (i think) till u see the marks " T F " on the fly wheel, not the other lines!!. now theres a slit on the top of the sight hole. line up the "T" on the flywheel with the the slit in the small hole! check your valves with your finger. if the exzaust is tight turn the crank one more turn. remember to make sure the T mark is lined up with that slit!! now it should be at top dead center.
now...with the timing chain tight put in the cam gear making sure that the OUT, and two lines are out! the two lines on the cam shud be pretty flush with the top of the head. maybe just a lil bit forward.( meaning the back line might be a little higher up than the front one!BUT NOT MUCH!!!!) once done, LOOSEN THE CHAIN, but do not remove the gear. keep it in the chain the best u can. put the cam in lobes down. finger tighten the top bolt on the cam gear to the cam. turn the crank a half turn (enough to get to the next bolt hole) now finger tighten the other bolt! turn over again. now torque the bolts and u should be good to go!!

yes there is 3 line on the cam one up and the other 2 meets with head make sure the T lines up with the sight hole line or groove you can take the plug out and check it with a skrew driver make sure the cam lobs are faceing down line all the marks up and that will do it
