Default Raptor shock on a 300ex?

Ive heard from several people that you can put a rear shock of a raptor onto a 300ex. I have a 99 300ex and was wondering what year model raptor it had to be from, anybody know from experience or know for sure, thanks!

Default Raptor shock on a 300ex?

I put one on my son's 300ex, and I can give you some tips. First, it HAS to be a 2001 Raptor shock, NO OTHER WILL WORK. 2001 is the only year with a remote resivior, the top of the shock is too close to the air box for anything else to work. Even then, it is a short hose, since the one I bought needed a rebuild, I had them put a 14" line on it, and clamped the res. to the frame. One other thing that may work, I have looked at the Warrior rear shock, it is a remote res, and has a long line on it, it would be a lot cheaper, and would probably be a lot better than the stock 300ex rear shock. If you have the time and money, buy a set of 400ex a arms and front shocks, and a front shock mounting kit, and you will have a HUGE improvement in handling and ride comfort front and back. This will make the front wider than the back, so a set of wheel spacers on the back will even it out. Sorry for the long reply to a simple question, but just thought I would share some of my experience with you.

thanks 95wolv,you answered about every question i had. so a 01 660r raptor shock will work? thanks man.and if i put 400ex a-arms on,i already have a very nice set of work front shocks that where 400 bucks.if i put the new a-arm on the front and the raptor shock in rear, would help handling and ride comfort tremendously? thanks wolv

Your welcome, as long as you use the 2001 Raptor shock ( only year with a remote res) you will be fine. Are the Works shocks you have for the front for the 300ex? if so, they should work with the 400ex a arms, most people use the 400ex shocks because they are a lot longer, and give you almost twice the travel of the stock length ones. The aftermarket ones you have will be way better than stock, so I say try them out, and see how they work with the longer a arms.

The rear shock of the 400ex will not work, it has a piggyback resivior, and it uses a bottom link that will not work with the 300ex swingarm.

No extra parts needed at all, it is a bolt in, I never noticed any height difference, but it definately gives you a lot better ride, and takes major jumps without bottoming out.
