ok. short and sweet. forget a shop. been doin engine work myself in a shop for years. so i kinda know my way around one. so this ? is really a dumb one and its getting on my nerves. my 400ex will spark sometimes. gas is good, coil is new. so is the rectifier, and the cdi, and the battery, and silinoid. my stator is stock and old. could that make my bike spark sometimes and sometimes not?

 

my buddies brother's little 80 had the same problem, we took the stator cover off, and it had some mud and crap packed in there so we cleaned it all out and WD 40'd it and now it's fine

if it has a bad pulse generator it will. are you getting fire at the plug all the time or sometimes,is it weak?

 

im getting fire sometimes. when i get it, its strong. nothing is loose or badly connected. i took off the stator cover and it looks to be clean and fine. it wont start sometimes as well...its pissin me off!

 

does it have a pulse generator connected to stator,should be a square box.its for your charging system. let me know if it does and ill tell yah how to check it real quick.

 

i dont think that it does. unless your talking about a CDI. its a box thats connected to it...kinda.

 

the cdi box on mine is under the frame below the handlebars,and mine is a 99. its the ignition pulse generator,square box in the stator cover,sounds like your problem bro. also check your ignition control module (cdi) with multimeter,your problem lies somewhere in there,trying to help you. i had to buy new wiring harness and rewire it because i was to lazy to check certain components....
