Default Honda Rancher 4x4 vs Honda Foreman 4x4

I read somewhere that the Japaneese ATV makers have agreed on a self-imposed maximum weight for ATV's, but I don't know if that's true. The Rubicon and Rincon both come with alloy wheels. That might also explain why they put power steering on the Foreman, but not the Rubicon or Rincon.

Anyway, you guys probably figured it out, but I mis-spoke. I meant people opt out of having electric shift for reasons other than saving money.

Yeah, I know sport quads don't have a dash, but for trail riding I really like having an odometer, spedometer and so on.

Still, if I were to go buy a Rancher today, it would be a foot shift 420, and I'd just have to use a bar mounted GPS (which you also don't see on sport quads).

Rancher is not heavy??? From the many 400 class ATV I drove Honda Rancher is not heavy. It would be nice if it did had Dash! I would stick with the stock rims but since Honda makes two different rims size "Stupid in my opinion" I had to get aftermarket rims for my swamplite.

When you are use to 350-375 pound sport quads, anything that's over 400 pounds seems like pure lard!!! Go out and roll a 700+ pound monster utililty, and you will know what I mean...if you survive!

I would love to see a sporty "hybrid" machine, sort of what Yamaha tried to do with the Wolverine, but based on a stripped-down/ultra-light Rancher 420.

The big 4 have a ~600 pound agreement, but that is obviously dry weight. Lots of machines edging over that these days. The other manufacutrers have thrown caution to the wind, and seem to thing that weight is not an issue. No thanks!

In the future, we may very well see a safety based backlash against monster utilities, similar to what happened wtih the 3-wheelers.

I'm comparing the 400 class not small little bikes, No shi* a 700 or 800 are heavy as hell I drive them and I know. Like I said the Rancher 420 to other 400 class brand is not that heavy for EXAMPLE my buddy Can-AM Outlander 400 is really heavy compare to my Rancher.

i just thought i would share some weights with yall, these are mostly"wet-weights" as posted by manufacturers on there websites... the 250cc's are around 450#. but the 400cc mechines are MUCH heavier(rancher being lightest in class). but the 500cc+ mechines(exept polaris) hault at about 625ish#. i simply have a hard time seeing why the heck the midsized mechines are so damb heavey!!! especially since many mid-cc ATV's are on mid-sized frames...only 60#s diffirence between midsized n fullsize mechine???

Hands down the Foreman 500. Wish I would of gotten the Foreman 500 instead of the Rincon. I like the simplicity of it. Good luck

I ride with both, they both trail ride well and work well. If I was 190lbs I might want the larger Foreman chassis. It other advantages is it has dual rear shocks, its Drum back brake is tucked out of the way and it has larger 25" wheels which gives it more ground clearance, it has a 3rd head light and is oil /air cooled (Two Oil Coolers), no water pump, anti freeze and rad to worry about.

Down side is the Foreman is more Expensive than the 420. From what I noticed they both have about the same acceleration and top end also.

You can,t load a Rancher like this.
