Honda 450 Exhaust Gap

Honda 450 Exhaust Gap
I have a gap between the exhaust and where the exhaust goes into the motor. I have a Honda 450 Rancher, and I'm not sure if that gap is supposed to be there. I can tell that there maybe a leak because when I'm going at high rpms, the exhaust has that "leaky sound". Should that gap be there? Also, after running the quad for a little while, when I shut it off, it back fires. Could that be related? Thanks!
