Rubicon vs Rincon
#1
We have been thinking about a new Rincon but I read all the time that owners miss not having a low range and no engine braking. Two big issues with me.
I love our Rubicon but after riding some bigger ATVs I think it is under powered and I'm not so sure I would be happy with a Rincon.
So what do you do if you want more power and don't want a Ricon?? Well I guess you have to go buy some other brand.
Do you think Honda will ever figure this one out?

Even the Rincon at 39hp and a top end of 60+ mph is rather low on the power and speed scale for a 680cc big bore, there are new 500- 550 with that much power/speed now. Honda's 500 Foreman and Rubicon only put out 27hp-30hp with a 50 mph top end. Honda puts Horse power/speed at the bottom of there list on there Utility ATVs.
Could be why there so reliable, there motors are not under so much stress.
Its more like if you want big power in a Utility ATV you have to look at another brand period.

I agree it would be nice if honda would give it better engine braking and a low range. I have a 03rincon great quad! Whenever i go down steep hills i put it esp 1 and it seems to help. Maybe one of these days honda will do something that the customer would like for them to do to make it even better!!

unfortunatly those are the top complaints for honda rin's and rubi's. the engine breaking problem is due to there transmission style...3speed automotive-type old design, but im hopefull they will redesign and update in the next few years to a twin-clutch auto(like the new rancher at).
i think that honda relyability is atleast partially based on there choice to keep using overhead valve engines. more low end power and less top heavy weight, since the cam is lower in the engine.
i would choose another brand for a big-bore mechine... a new/used brute force or grizzly would be my choices

Top speeed is not a concern to me, the power to get ther is.
Riding in deep snow I'm in low 2nd WOT and can't shift to 3rd while our friends motor right past us.
I would be happy with a 650 Rubicon.
