300ex wont run rite

my 300ex will idle, i get in it and it revs to about 4500 and it just idles down and dies, i unhook the breathe hose and it runs a little better, when it is choked it backfires out the carburetor whats wrong with it.

adjust your rocker arms, thats usually what happens when you dont have the vavles seated rite. mite be bent too. the vavles that is.
