Z400 or 400ex or 450r or lt250r

400EX-Best tight trail quad of all time, becasue this engine can be lugged down! Will run forever, with just basic maintenance. Good handling and suspension. Probably the slowest of the performance quads, but who cares on a tight trail where you will never get out of 3rd gear anyway.
Z400-Likes to rev more than the EX, so I pick it for more open trails and wide open country. In terms of geometry, it is a 400EX knockoff with a faster water cooled engine. Good handling and suspension. (For 09, it got redesigned and has fuel injection. Have not ridden this one yet, but it gets good reviews and should be a sweet machine.)
The 450 is all rev! They scream and are very fast, but also require a lot of anoying clutch slipping on a slow tight trail. I pick it for open country riding or very fast open trails only. These are the do more with less machines, and have a very favorable power/weight ratio! All the 450's need frequent oil changes.
The LT250R is so old, I would only get it as a "project" quad, if I also had something else to ride. You will be doing more wrenching than riding. The old 2-stroke 250's are classics...they sadly don't build them like that anymore.

Of those you have listed I would go with the 400 class quads by far more every day quads than the 250 or 450! It all depend on the riding styly that you ride.
