680 is big, its not that Honda needs bigger motors they just need to get away from the old OHV motor and move to OHC motors like everyone else.
The Utility just have the Lowest HP numbers per cc than anyone else. The are 500-550 that have more power and speed than Honda 680 Big bore and 400-450 with the same power as there 500s.
Honda sure does not have that issue when it comes to there Sport ATV (No OHV on them).
Honda should also but the Rear Drum brakes to rest once and for all, they just look odd now a days.
Lockers should just come on there ATVs standard like everyone else offers and put those aftermarket locker kits out of business.
There are discontinued ATVs such as the 660 Grizzly that Honda has not come close to in Performance, speed, traction and ride yet. Sitting still forever is not a great strategy .

Honda doesn't really need to put more HP in the Rincon. This could be debated back and forth with no end in sight. The biggest thing the Rincon really could use, is an extra gear, a lower first. A 4 speed with a nice low first gear would be absolutely fine, and solve the biggest complaint ppl have with it...lack of low end grunt, or lack of towing capability. Stuff like a more powerful motor, difflock, more ground clearance, is not really needed, when there are so many other machines that offer those things.
Flame away, lol.

Honda has taken a different track (OHV with little fat stubby pushrods), to keep the engine height short, and therefore the center of gravity low. Plus, this type of engine makes grunt down low (more applicable to the way a ute is used), where the OHC makes revs up high (more applicable to a sport quad). And Honda mounting the engine sideways, is just the obvious thinking mans solution! (My guess is, that Honda has patents on these, otherwise everybody would be copying them!)
What you are doing is complaining that Honda isn't just like everybody else. Seems to me it is good for the industry to have a variety of designs available to pick from. Or, is what you are really looking for just some cookie cutter belt drive, that says Honda on the side???? Having quality issues with the Polaris???

This is what I've been getting at. Honda needs to step up big time! They are on the verge of losing it. In terms of ATV /UTV sales disregarding motorcycles, PWC, outboard engines and those sorts, Honda is barely ahead of Polaris in units sold 185,000 to 182,000 these were 2007 numbers powersportsbusiness.com. Though I have not yet seen 2008's numbers (due next month) there has been speculation that Polaris over took Honda In UTV/ATV sales If you look at ATV's alone there is a 52,000 unit difference. AS of 2007 Honda owned 30% of the powersports market. The analysts are saying Honda may have gave some of that up. There have been more than just me that have turned away from the 3/4 ton ride of a Honda to go to a more complient ride of some other brand. A year ago if you would have asked me what I would buy next I would have said there isn't any thing but a honda. But then you start looking around testing some and you start to think, "my back ain't what it used to be would be nice to have something that rides nice." NOT FLOPPY but certainly not beat you up all day either. Sucks getting older.

What were saying is that Honda COULD build the Best of everything into their offerings. When They do the whole industry gets better. I have no quality issues with either my Hondas or the Polaris. Plaris is the #2 in ATV's, yes they sold more than Yamaha. Although, Yamaha being more diversified is the #2 in powersports industry. Polaris is Number 4 in the power sport industry. What intreresting is that Harley Davidson is #3 they sell way more motorcycles than anybody else. I didn't think that was true but numbers don't lie. Being a long time honda owner I want another one, they just don''t make what I want now.

Just was looking through some old threads and got a kick out of this one. Some felt that the market would go in the direction of light sport quads with the big bore 4x4s not getting many sales. From what I've seen in the 4 years since this post the utes are still as strong as a percentage of the sales that they were then. Maybe even a higher percentage. Gotta say I've been really impressed with the Renegades I've rode. Crazy power and very throwable for me at least.
