Default Play in rear axle

Are there problems that are more common than others that could cause play in the rear axle on my recon? I have a service manual so I should be able to do the work but I thought some of you might know what I should look for first.

I rocked it from side to side and that's when I noticed the play. There's just a little bit of wiggle. How long would it take to replace the bearings? Any special tools?

Also, would riding it this way hurt anything until I get a chance to fix it?

no spetailtools, but it can be a pain. just make sure you have a manual. first jack the rear end up and make sure it is the bearings...wiggle side to side. it wont do dammage if you ride it lightly for a few hours. but dont put it off for more than 1-2 rides
