Default 450r question

hello i just bought a new 2008 trx450er and it runs amazing but sometimes when i stab the throttle quickly from an idle it dies. is this a problem or is it just because the motor is still being broke in?

They have to jet these lean, to meet emissions standards. Break it in completely, then do any mods you might be thinking of (exhaust, air intake, etc.), and get it properly jetted. The Honda HRC kit is the greatest bang for your buck!!!

I don't know how familiar you are with this engine, but it needs frequent oil changes (as do all the 450's!). This is becasue of fuel dilution of the oil. Fortunately, Honda seperated the engine and trans oils, so you don't need to change out the trans as often as the engine. This article outline this:

Also, run about 100cc of extra oil in the trans. 3rd a 5th gears are lubed by splash, and extra oil helps insure that they will never get left high and dry!

Do not neglect your first valve adjustment, at 20 hours!

Also, break it in on petroleum oil (~10 hours), but after that this engine deserves a premium ester synthetic! My favorites are Redline, and Maxima Extra, Ultra, and 530MX.

I posted some links about oil in this thread, that are really imformative:
