HELP!! 200sx Neutral light problems.ANYONE.
#1
My 200sx sat up for about 2 months while I built up the time 2 put on the new sprockets. When I started 2 ride I noticed the neutral light stayed on, in every gear, even reverse, the reverse light doesnt work, also the electric starter will work IN EVERY GEAR, I dont know what the problem is, does anyone have any advice, or have had the same problem. Also I have oil leaking from around the front sprocket, my cousin said this could be linked. WHAT IS GOING ON?????

You probly installed your neutral switch incorectly, about the oil leak i dont know for sure if this could be linked but i doubt it. Where exactly is it linking? Around the shift shaft or around the countershaft? If it's either one of these you'll have to split the cases and put new gaskets in.

I never messed with anything except the chain and sprockets, nothing else, What I dont get is for about the last 2 months I rode it I could switch into 1st gear and the neutral light stay on It got worse and after you rode for about an hour would go away, now after it sat up It stays on ALL the time. Can the fact that it can start in any gear hurt anything? I almost hurt myself a couple of times already because of it,I am really worried, this is the only real problem my good ole' 200sx has ever given me.

Thats what a lot of try to do and you've got it so keep it. The heck with the lights just be glad it starts in all gears. I think the neutral switch goes to the crankcase on the sidecase by the chain so the wiring might have got pulled out and created a leak.Or the chain has put a hole in the sidecase because it was to loose and came off. Just a thought

I have all the Same exact problems here with my 86' 200SX and mine started right after i installed new chain and sprocket also...... I had the quad on its right side for about a month while trying to find aftermarket sprockets (no luck) so maybe that has something to do with it, I looked and all wireing goes into the engine case so i said heck with it. And that dam Netural light stays on too.. really annoying when night rideing. My oil leak was caused by the old worn chain wearing a hole threw the side case after it jammed up a few times... I fixed it with JB weld. I am currently fixing my rear axle bolts as explained in my other post under "ATV mag picks ruby as ATV of the Year"

OOOOOH Fixin' them axle bolts must be a pain eh JRM??...LOL
Well my 200sx has never leaked oil beside the sprocket and never had the Neutral light stay on. (Must be bacause I have a later and better model of the 200SX than all of you,heh heh
)
The only thing that went wrong with electrical for me was the head-light stayed off when I turned it on, I tought the bulb blew but it works fine now. And the kill switch sometimes doesn't work.
JRM - Why did it take forever to find aftermarket sprockets??...mine were easy to find, and there are alot of them avaliable for the 200SX at my dealer. I got a new chain and sprockets in the fall and the chain is sweet!!, it's a racing O-ring chain.
What kind of chain did you get mudslinger?? o-ring or non??

JRM - Are you talking about those black rubber things that fit around the bushing??
Those rubber things on mine are worn out, and I just bought the sprocket in the fall
..I don't know if I can replace them or have to buy a whole new sprocket. My rear sprocket is 42 tooth, and it is an aftermarket sprocket. Bought it for $50...canadian too, so it's around $30 american.
