I was cleaning my filter one day and noticed a clean spot on it where it rests on the white intake tube. So I cut the indented flat shaped area out with a pair of shop scissors (2x3 square). It is a wasteful design that covers about 6 square inches of the filter. That is like 15-20% of the filter surface area. Next time look in there trim the snorkel tube so you can get more air. It just makes sense. I run a K&N so it may be larger than stock? Be safe!

hey, that's an excellent observation and recommendation....

wonder why we haven't heard of it before?
what's worse is why did Honda do that in the first place?

The air filter rests on it. Keep an eye on it if you are a jumper. I took that white piece completely off and sometimes when I go big, the air filter falls off.

My K&N sets on a plastic molded prop/notch on the bottom of the box. it is pinched between that and the hose clamp. maybe clean the lip of the box/filter with alcohol to remove oil or debris for more grip. Also when you cut the flat spot out the edges still support the filter? Thanks
