Default 08 Rancher 420 4x4 TWIST Throttle

Hey Gang,

Would love to have a twist throttle to replace the thumb throttle on my 08 Rancher. Has anyone made this mod and if so, how do they like it? Is this a difficult and expensive change? Love to hear your thoughts ~ thanks again.

For trail riding, and most every other type of riding, minus motocross I haven't heard of anyone keeping the twist on, even if they were old dirt bike racers, IMO they aren't any good

Twist throttles just don't work well for 99% of all people on an ATV....... not even pro motocross riders are using them anymore as they say the new engines are just too torquey to handle....

The problem is the turning mostly..... on a bike you turn by leaning the machine, so your arm/elbow/wrist angle stays the same.

On an ATV, you turn the bars....and your BODY leans NOT the machine....the machine stays flat so your arm/elbow/wrist angle changes as you turn which puts pressure on the twist throttle and causes you to give it gas when you least expect it or want it.....

I have seen SOOO many people who wanted a twisty on an ATV, put it on only to change it back because they got hurt, or nearly got hurt........ if you want to test it, ride an ATV sometime with a loose grip and see how long it stay on.

So THAT'S why they don't work. I always heard they just don't work but never knew why. That explanation was perfect.

My buddy got new atv's for the whole family. He put twist throtles on them, because he said he was dirt bike guy and could never get use to a pushbutton. After the first week or so, they all came off. A little practical experience goes a log way....

Default I have been convinced !

Thanks for all of the replies guys. I think I'll stay with the thumb throttle after all. Some very good points that I never considered. All the more reason to love this forum. Be safe! Thanks again
