My 88 250R clutch went out this weekend. I am planning on taking it apart next week. Want to see if anyone knows what the problem is before I open it up. Here is the problem: The clutch went out. The clutch has no resitance on it, pull the cable the rod moves with no force (not the cable). The cluch rod can't be pulled out freely (not a broken cluch rod.) Do any of you have an idea what it could be?

Thanks,

You say the clutch rod cannot be pulled out freely .Are you talking about the clutch lifter;the thing that hooks onto the motor end of the clutch cable? The clutch rod is the thing that the clutch lifter pushes on,that runs through the middle of the hollow shaft the clutch basket is bolted on.Anyway it sounds like one of those two parts are bent or broken.

PS If its not an 89' get the clutch update that gets rid of the ball and has needle bearings on the end.

88' 250R many extras

I am sorry, your right, I meant the clutch lifter won't pull out, so I know that isn't broken. It has no resitance on it when I turn it. So you think it might be the acutally rod that is broken?
Thanks for your help.

my guess is the pressure plate broke. thats the first thing that comes to mind. let us know what it actually was. oh yeah, did it go out while you were riding? you make have damaged other things so check everything carefully

Either way you'll have to pull your right side case cover to find out for sure, and like 400exalltheway said inspect all surrounding parts thouroghlly.

You will not be able to pull the lifter rod out untill the push rod is pulled out through the right side of the engine.

True unless it was broken which was what he was checking for.
