Default Should I trade?

Got a question.
I have a 2001 Yamaha raptor 660 with wiesco high comp piston and yosh exhaust, otherwise completely stock. Might have the opportunity to trade for 05 trx450r estart. I haven't got to ride the 450 yet, but a friend told me it does have a tranny problem, slips when shifting into 4th gear he said "if you don't pull up real hard"? I was just wondering how much better this atv would be if I was wanting to get into racing(beginning) I know that stock for stock it is much different than the raptor. I guess what i am asking are the motors pretty reliable and tough? How much to replace the tranny(parts only). would a crf motor fit the frame fairly easily?

what do you all think? should I do it? and if so some of the pros and cons.

thanks for the time.

Since this one has a transmission problem I would stay away. With a used Atv you really don't know what it has been through. Plus, you have to ask yourself why would he want to trade an 05 TRX450 for a 01 Raptor? You would probably be better off selling yours and then buying what you want. I say this and I have entertained trades myself. That being said, the Honda would be a great race bike.

Been my experience when someone sells you something with a "simple" problem, it's because it's a lot simpler to sell it than fix it.

Call a honda shop, and talk to someone in the service department and describe what it's doing to them. Who knows, it may just be a simple fix.

Or it may save you from trading a good running quad for a money pit.

FYI, The Electric start didn't come out until 2006. The 04/05 was kick only. What does the head light look like? That will tell you what year.

saw the quad today, missing front hood and heel guards, also stock taillight gone(small aftermarket in place) front and rear fenders cut. The guy says it sometimes doesn't want to stay in fourth gear, but when I rode it no problems, however i didn't have much room to really wind it up. He shot me a cash price of 2000, does this sound fair? it is an 06
