Picked up one for free, its been sitting for a while and is rough shape... Current problem we are having, is the pull string wont pull. Any ideas why?

You'll have to remove the recoil starter , just 4 bolts (6mm) and the neutral indicator .. Then you can see if the recoil starter is seized or the engine ..

Took that off already, once removed pulled the string is pretty easy, guessed the engine is locked up.

I rebuilt the top end on same bike for about $125 last year.
Mine had snapped the intake valve which froze the motor in place. For the price I got new piston kit, valves and top end gasket set.
Drain your oil and make sure there's no metal chunks or flakes in it. If the oil looks bad it might be time to retire it.
If no metal in oil pull the head off and see what your damage is. Might be less than you think.

sorry for my lack of knowledge (luckily my brothers coming home over the weekend which should offer some much much needed assistance) but if you lift up the back of the quad, while its in gear, and are still able to spin the back tires through the process, there is no way it could be locked up? Or am i completely wrong?

What gear is it in?
Neutral will spin without the engine turning. Try shifting thru gears and spinning the tires.

That quad has an automatic clutch so even if it's in gear, the rear wheels can be rotated by hand freely as if it were in neutral. There's a small plug on the left side crankcase. Unscrew it and you'll see a big nut in the hole. Not sure what size it is, mabye a 15mm? This nut connects directly to the crank. Put put a socket on it and try to turn it. If it won't turn, then something is wrong with the motor.

There won't be a plug to remove .. If it has a pull start then once the recoil starter is removed you turn the engine over using the bolt in the center of the starter pulley ..

What year/model is the bike ..
In 1986-88 Honda made the TRX200sx it is chain drive .. It has a recoil starter
In 1984 Honda made the TRX200 it is shaft drive.. It has a recoil starter
Honda also made the TRX200 & TRX200d with a recoil starter but they came out in 1990

If you don't know what it is post the engine number ..
