hay guys i need some help i have a 2006 honda rancher trx 400 fa at when i put it in reverse it works fine but once i put it in forward it wont move a lick it makes the really bad grinding sound and shakes if i take the shifter off and take a pry bar and hold it in forward it will move but only if u give it little gas what can be wrong and is it a easy fix someone plz help u can im me on yahoo if u want its countryboy198523@yahoo.com plz help

hay ok hers whats going on i have a 2006 honda rancher trx 400 fa at
when i start the 4 wheeler it runs great when i put it in reverse it will go with no problem but when i put it in forward it wont go at all all it does is make a grinding /clicking noice and shakes the shift lever on the motor if i put a pry bar down there and hold the pin in forward it will move but very little also the esp on the dial is flashing now what can be the problem and what is the easyest fix i have tried the cable way still happens

What I found on the TRX400FG/FA models is they will corrode where the steel passes thru the aluminum .. I would disconnect the cable at the sub-transmission and try shifting with a wrench to check if it shifts freely .. If it did much grinding then the rear cover may have to be removed to check the sub-transmission gears ..

I own an 07 Rancher and have found that I have to periodically remove the cover that Hondamechanic mentioned and spray it down with WD40 or PB Blaster. Word of advice do not shift with the cover off, it will throw off the gear shift arm thats inside the housing and is a real pain to replace while still on bike. I learned this through trial and error. Also be careful removing the cover so you don't damage the gasket.
I perform this maintenance about every 3-4 months depending on how much water and mudholes the kids hit with it.
