Default 400ex Trail Mods

I just bought an 07' Honda 400ex. I only ride the trails. What modifications should i do to it. I want to make it the best all around trail quad. So far i have added an hour meter, and full chassis and swing arm skid plates. I have been looking at some nerf bars as well as exhaust, but which brands are the best.
Thanks

First of all you have a great trail quad that really does not require to many mods. I would look into hand guards, oversized gas tank, uni air filter, and a rear sproket with 1 extra tooth. I think stock is a 38 tooth. This would give you just a little more grunt on the bottom end. As for a exhaust sorry but I cant help you there, all I know is you will have to rejet the carb and the exhaust manufacturer will recommend the jet sizes.

I think you pretty much have it covered with the skid plates. 400ex's are already great trail machines out of the box. I don't know if I would tamper with the exhaust too much, if you put on a different exhaust make sure what ever you get has a spark arrestor.

hey, i got an 07 400ex i bought leftover a couple months ago brand new. im just now doin my mods to it. i cut out the spark arrestor from the stock exhaust which improved performance and makes it sound awesome (keep in mind that an exhaust without the spark arrestor is against the rules of most trails). i am in the process of installing a uni air filter, doing an airbox mod, installing a 42 pilot and a 150/152 main. i have heard of the wonders the 42 pilot does during the winter, it starts up instantly on cold starts and you dont even need the choke so if it is as good as it seems then i will remove the choke to improve throttle response.

A good bumper. I like the IMS/Roll Dominator.

DG Race Peg nerf bars.

FMF PowerBomb Header and Q4 Muffler. EHS Racing airbox lid with Outerwears, and ProDesign (ProFlow) adapter and foam air filter (avoid K&N!). And of course, a rejet...

ITP Baja rims and Holeshot XC tires.

A good set of tires, and a set of nerf bars are requirements to me for any quad I ride. You'll be surprised how much a good set of meats will help you in the woods! If you're looking into a pipe for the woods it's hard to go wrong with an HMF, if you're going to stay mostly stock I'd save my cash and just get a slip on. I'd recommend the quiet core as it's fairly loud otherwise. Don't forget to rejet! I also recommend a good foam air filter.

If you want to start getting more advanced you may also look into some suspension work, my buddy has revalved 450R fronts, with a DeRisi revalved rear and it feels great!
