there are some good points being made here. As far as my own 2 cents goes, it depends largely on your mechanical skills as to whether it is wise to buy used. If you are a mechanical idiot, buy new, that way it will be a little longer ride time before you start taking it to the shop for work to be done. If you have at least some basic skills with a set of wrenches, then go for the used. The upgraded aftermarket parts can indicate the previous owner was prone to flog the machine, but not always.

As far as red or white plastic, go with the red as the white will start to look like crap very soon after your first few rides. The worst color is black IMO.

As far as the technology goes, the 300ex hasn't changed since 1993, which pisses me off a bit that Honda doesn't do something with it. If you really wanted to save some $$$ and had some average mech skills and a factory service manual, you could buy an older one and go through it completely, that way you would KNOW what was fixed (and fixed correctly) You coul;d also get new Maier plastic in almost any color

Thanks for all the input.

I have the same feelings re new/used as have been mentioned.

As for mechanical ability, nothing is out of my capability, I have many years experience, and lots of knowledge backing it up.

I am still on the fence, the dealers are in no rush to sell (can's under stand this, out of season in a slow year!!), and I have given the dealer a chance to move his '07 if he drops his price a bit (looking for ~$500 off), and he said he will sit on it till spring if I am not interested in it at $4999, Which I am not, I will buy a '08 for the same $$.

So I am still looking between the '08's, new or used red. I know that they are not advertised and in storage as it is now ski-doo season, so I have time to think.

Thanks Chad

Ontario Canada.

IF I was to buy US, there is a dealer about 5 hrs south, $2999.00 USD + 250 FRT/PDI, Plus state tax.

Then I have transport, duty, and RIV fees, totaling ~$4500-$5000 CDN (or more depending on the exchange), about a $500 savings, and NO warranty in Canada (would have to be taken back to the US) as Honda US pulled the pin on Canadians who do importing.

So, a better price assuming no warranty work is required!

I would definetly shop around. 5000$ for 2 almost 2 and 3 year old 300ex's is high price to pay regardless if there new. Deals are out there and I'm almost positive you can find a brand new 300ex for cheaper.

The Canadian dollar is worth a little less than the U.S dollar, that is why the price is higher...
