Drain bolt is on the bottom of the engine. Oil filter should be similar to this, and be sure you don't put it in backward: Honda 400EX ATV Oil Change Insturctions - ATV Technical Articles

I fill it to the top of the dipstick, then take it for a very short ride and check the oil level again. Use a motorcycle specific oil that is rated API SG/JASO MA. I recommend Maxima Premium or Extra if you want to go synthetic.

If you have to ask about oil changes....I bet you have never adjusted the valves or changed the oil in the differentials either....

As noted above, do not put the filter in backwards. Doing so will block all oil flow.

Also, do not overtorque the drain plug.

Yeah, like reconranger and JeffinTD said, make sure you don't put it in backwards. I have seen this done and it will definitely damage your engine.

The newer Honda oil filters won't go in backwards , they have a lip around them that only allows them to go in 1 way .. You have to be careful with aftermarket filters which will go in either way ..

And always install new Honda aluminum drain plug gaskets.
