ATC 70 motor rebuild question
hi guys. i just restored my 1982 honda atc 70 i put a new standard bore cylinder and piston in with a new bearing type race cam and new valves. got thing put back together and cant get i to run got spark, timing is right, valve clearance is right. i can take plug out and put some gas in cylinder and get it to sputter but cant keep it running i took carb completly apart put it in a ultrasonic cleaner then sprayed carb and choke cleaner through all jets and ports put carb back on 70 and does same thing not getting enough gas do i need to adjust pilot air screw or what any ideas on what i should do or try your replys would be apreciated i dont have the exhaust on it yet would that matter? thanks jared

Everything you posted dictates it should start so long as you are getting compression.
The exhaust being off of it will affect it running for sure, but it should at least run for a few seconds minimum even with it off. You wouldn't want to run it more than a minute with it off anyway because it will cook your exhaust valve.
Try putting the exhaust on it, then be sure the choke is working on the carb. Put your hand behind the carb blocking it off entirely when trying to start it to be sure.
If that doesnt work, you will likely need go back and take a look at the timing again.
