Would you buy a 400ex that needed work?
I know they are sometimes refered to as the best trail quad ever but would you buy one for 750 if it needed work. I have found one that look as though it has sat outside for a while. Its plastics have been painted terrible, its seat is faded. It needs a timing chain, so they say. They heard it slapping and went to change it but then figured out they were over there head. They disconnected the clutch and took the cover off. Thats as far as they got. They have also just lost their job and need the money. They were asking but i have them down to 750. Everything else seems good. Its a 2001 so its going to need work anyways but im the worse person ever about buying something and paying too much. here a bad picture

I agree with honkaw It looks in extremely rough shape and since it doesnt run i wouldnt pay more than 500 bucks for. You might end up spending several hundred in pistons/vlaves/etc if they said they heard it slapping. I personally wouldnt go over 500 bucks. Set em straight and tell em that the big thing is that the motor doesnt run so 500 is your top dollar.

Don't you love it when you get ten diffrent answers to a simple queston ? I've bought plenty of basket cases and the problem is with out it running you really don't know what your getting you may or may not have transmission problems or it may just nickel and dime you , but me personaly I would never pay more than $500.00 for this bike. Please keep in mind alot of times the answers you get on this forum are from younger riders who are still learning the ropes. Hopefully Hondamechanic will see this post ,he is totaly reliable and very knowledgeable about these bikes.
