Hello my 87 trx350 has what i think is a top end noise but not all the time sounds great when you first start after about 5min. im getting a ticking/chattering noise from the valve area or top half of motor seems like if you hit the thottle noise goes away with higher rpm's was going to check the valve gap but having trouble getting the caps that cover the top dead center mark and the crank out so there is no way to be sure im at top of compression stroke to check and adjust valves if needed. The caps both have slots in them but will not loosen only making slot bigger and might crack cap or worse yet the left side engine case.Anyone have any ideas how to remove caps or what you think engine noise may be?? Could it be valve adjustment or ???? Also there is no power loss just noise at times. This is a fourtrax 4x4. Thank you for any information

 

Some of the hondas valves are more audible than others. If I were a betting man I'd say thats what your hearing. Still I'd try to get in there to inspect clearence if it's been a while if ever.
