In high range, D1 is programmed to shift at high HP part of the rpm curve, D2 is programmed to shift at the high torque part of the rpm curve. In other words, D1 for max quickness and speed, D2 for max work and high load conditions. There is no difference between D1 and D2 in low range.

HOsoulman: What a great comment from some Polaris newbie on the forum. A whopping 10 posts. I've owned two Hondamatics now. The Rubicon for 7 months and no problems. And the other is a 1978 CB750. It to has the Hondamatic Transmission with 12,000 on the odometer. So sorry to burst your little bubble but I would say my POS Hondamatic is far more reliable than you Overweight, belt burning, it a good thing parts are cheap Polaris.

BTW- I speak from experiance. I owned many quads including Polaris. And everything I said is true.

I don't mean to bash anyone's quad but little mister soulman asked for it.

A continuing mystery; if someone remains totally pleased with his ATV, and claims total confidence in his machine's superiority to all others; why does he spend time and effort bashing and putting down, knocking other machines? Whom is he trying to convince? Himself?

Eleven post now hiofcer. How many times you has that hondamatic stuck in the mud or in rough terrain on the trail or has to pull something with it? Do you really think that a 78 model street bike is a good argument for the Rubys auto trans? Come on now this thing is new to atvs and when it goes down on the trail you wont be able to put a spare belt on it and go on like you can a belt driven auto.Honda could have made the perfect atv but they chose to keep those sorry drum brakes and all the time 3 wheel drive. They should have put disc brakes, true four wheel drive, switch two or four, and IRS with the old reliable belt auto.Man I thinks I just described the purfect atv.All yous guys know that tranny will never lasts thats why yous all buy those 5 year extended warrantees
