hello everyone, recently sold my ktm because most riding places here in pa. are closing up.well I'm thinking about riding again and was checking out atv's because I have more legal places to ride like the state forest.my question would be I see new 2008 honda 400ex's on line for about $3800 but then you read the ad and the dealer adds on a huge amount of fee's. does anyone know of a pa. dealer that can get me out the door for around $4000 . my friend wants me to go with the suzuki ltz400 ,but I love the hond reliablity and not really worried about speed.any help would be great .
thanks Frank

I'm with you on sticking with Honda. The 400EX is a great trail quad but not much of a mud & muck quad. Depends where you ride but you may want to think about a 4wd for PA. Anyway, my first advice is to buy used. Hard to find a 400ex that hasn't been raced or beat though so just beware of that. My second advice is if you buy new, just make the dealer an offer. Just tell him "4 grand out the door." Then walk away. Chances are he'll cave. Times are tough for recreational toys and I'm betting he'll sell it to you. Where in PA are you? I used to live near a small town called Corry.

I thought about a 4x4 atv but don't like all that weight. I'm in chester county ,exton area. plan on riding some of the state forest near poccono racetrack.most trailt are slower and tight.that is why I'm looking at the 400 ex compared to the suzuki 400 my friend wants to to look at.do you think a dealer would bite on that price?

All you can do is try. By the way, I used to ride a nice sport quad and went to a Recon. Still 2wd but I rode with guys that have 4wd and I rode theirs. It depends what size you get but you can get a small 4wd. Not trying to talk you into a 4wd but what I do want to say is how much I like the recon over my 250X. Reason is....MUD PROTECTION. I can't believe how muddy guys on sport quads get and I used to get. Also, I can carry stuff. Water, snacks, tools, beer, etc. My 250X weighed 351 lbs. and the recon weighs 419. Di I notice? Yes, a little, but it's worth it. I really appreciate the clean cushy ride. But that's just me. I rode with a guy that was on a 400EX and he got stuck everywhere. The recon went through everything. I was impressed. And no chain. Just my thoughts. Then again, like I said, the 400ex is one of the best trail quads out there, but not much for muddin.
