ok my question is why is everybody saying the top speed of a stock 400 ex is 65. I was clocked at 72 a week after i got it, by a friend of mine thats a police officer. Could it be the climate down here in Mississippi?

I assure you the top speed of a stock 400ex is not 72 mph. However, this is any endless battle and I'm not going any further. Been there, done that!

I have seen everything from 60 to 73 claimed for a top speed. I know a guy who took his to a drag strip and in the quarter he topped out at 68. The top speed listed for the Raptor is around 72. I think anywhere from 64-68 is realistic for the 400ex.

I have ran mine and it will only go 64.8mph bone stock i have since put a K&N on it along with white bros rev kit im not sure if that helped or not ive heard the fastest is 65 which is faster than you or any one can take one down through the woods it will go as fast through a corner as you got the nuts to push the throttle.

I can get 72mph on mine too. Well, my uncle got 72 on radar with his a few time, but most of the time he would get 70 or 71. I can go a little bit faster than him so I'm probably 73 or 74. I don't want to start a fight with everyone, but I'm just posting my results. When I use to have a 300EX I could get anywhere from 59-61. Depending on wind, temp, etc. All of these reading were done with a radar and on an a paved airstrip. Plus I have my fenders cut and ducking out of the wind gives you a few more mph. On dirt is would be slower especially if you don't duck out of the wind. Anyway, these are my finding anyway.

if a 400EX can go 72 then i must be able to do like 80 cuz i can beat my friends slightly modded 2000 easy. and i know mine doesn't go 80. and when we raced we had perfect traction cuz we were on pavement.

I had a 99 EX with a slip-on FMF and KN filter. According to a GPS I hit 69 mph.

Altitude also affects top speed. I live at 500 feet and can run 75 with air box, jet kit, pipe etc. At the dunes I ride at 3000 feet I loose 10 MPH due to height.
