how to titen chain??

ok i know this has nothing to do with atv's, but im wanting to know how to titen the chain on a motor cycle. is it like a 4wheeler with the screw thing right by the rear sprocket? my firend needs his chain titend and i said i would do it for him. so im c'n if it is like a 4wheeler or how it is

The "screw thing", is called the adjuster. Clever, Huh? You have to loosen the axle bolt and since the adjuster is apparently not a cam type, loosen the lock nut on the adjusters and be sure to align both to the same reference point. If he doesn't have an owner's manual with the specs, probably one inch of free play at the middle of the chain would be safe to tighten it.

Just as an additional check for the benefit of your friend, after you've adjusted his chain properly you could check it for worn linkage. You do this by grasping a link at the rear of the rear sprocket, about three o'clock, and pulling the link away from the sprocket. If more than 1/2 a tooth is visable, the chain is shot and no amount of adjusting will help. It also will ruin both sprockets if it hasn't already.
