Default 04 400ex stock

Hey everyone
I am new to atvs (very new) looking at buying my first. A guy I know his neighbor who is a farmer has a stock 04 400ex for sale. It is near showroom condition. 95% on the factory tires. Old farmer bought it for grandkids to ride on the farm. Pretty much has been sitting in the pole shed for years. Emptied the gas tank out. It seems to run fine. Is there anything else I should check and look for before buying it? Seems mint compared to all the others I have seen.

Bulletproof. Buy it. But don't run it much without changing the oil. Might want to change the brake fluid too. Clean the carb, new plug. But basically, if it runs now, it will run great after you do all that stuff. No known "issues" with the 400ex.

Ok Thanks I was just wondering because a bunch I have looked at before this one have had head gasket leaks. So I figured I would keep an eye on that. Figured I would change the oil no matter what. 10/40? I am in Wi

I'd go with Honda GN-4 at least to start. And in the summer 10-40 is fine. Don't use regular motor oil, use motorcycle oil. Oil arguments will start now that I said that, but that's just my opinion.

Go to Wal Mart buy some stuff called Sea Foam (In car section with the fuel cleaner chemicals) put in fuel tank with new fuel full and run till about empty. This will clean the entire fuel system!

I have two 03 400ex's they are great. If it hasn't been used much you might not have to worry about them but check the valves. They may need to be adjusted. Don't let it scare you it's not hard.

Rode the snot out of it today. Three hours of riding in 90 degree heat with out a single hicup. This thing is amazing. I still can't ride a wheely yet. Which my buddies keep pointing out. But I can jump it aways. And yet their modified ones broke down twice today. Happy I got this one.
