Hey I got a 400 ex 2004 runs great looks even better. It has a squeak some where in the front suspension. Starts to happen only after riding for a while sounds almost like a bed spring squeak. Any suggestions on what it could be. Thanks

 

have you greased the font end??? (Grease zerts)

 

Most likely the front shock bushings are dirty. remove shock and clean and grease bushing...Good Liuck...

 

Ok I will try that. as for the grease zerts. I don't have any on the front a arms. Looks like it is bushings. I will try taking off the shocks any special tricks for doing that.

Sorry!!!!! I wasn't looking for smart-*** comments. I have owned a quad for all of two weeks. I have never done any kind of repairs yet. Except changing fluids and tightening chain. Sometimes people who have done these things. Know little helpful tricks. Like it is easier to keep pressure on the wheels or it is easier to keep the wheels off the ground. Or maybe take the bottom bolt off first replace it then do the top. Hell who knows maybe you have a magical little fairy doing all your work for you. Which would make it really easy for you. I just don't want to sit and struggle with a bolt. If all I need to do is add or remove pressure. Thanks for help and comments

 

I won't give you a smart answer. Support it on a jack stand or 2 under the front. Take the tires off. Then remove the shocks. But, while you're at it, remove anything that moves and lube it. I use Honda waterproof grease. It could be an A arm bushing that is squeaking. It'll take about 2 hours to do it all. Nothing tricky. Just bolts & nuts.

 

I just finished with the shocks. Supported the front end. Didn't remove tires. Which might have been easier. Took top out first greased and reinstalled. Then did bottom. Both sides were bone dry. Greased the inside of the shock the bushing and the bolt. I didn't notice any squeak but riding it will tell if I got it. If not I'll do the a arms next. Might be smart just to do them anyway. Probably haven't ever been down. Thanks for the info. Definitely will remove the wheels next time.

 

Just went out riding and all the squeaks are gone. Thanks for all the help. I can't wait until I can start helping people back.
