Angry 2004 300ex chain tensioner

picked up a 300 ex a few weeks ago and trying to get it ready to ride. The chain is loose and i loosened the two hew bolts on the rear of the swing arm. WD-40'd them and what I think is the tensioner, while at the dealership picking up a few parts i asked how to tighten it. They told me that i need a special tool reallly dont want to spend the money on it. I was working it and got it to turn a little bit with a screw driver and hammer but it is pitting the metal and probally doing more harm then good. any help would be greatly apperiated.

Welcome to the forum. A 1/4" socket extension works good also a 1/4" nut drive to adjust it and won't mar the aluminum. Put in it the slot and pull towards you to tighten, just don't tighten it too much. It's better to be a little too loose that a little too tight. If it's hard to move just put it in first and grab the grab bar and jerk it back to break it loose.

I put a screwdriver in there and was pulling on it pretty hard, was bending didnt want it to snap and punch myself in the face so i stopped. I will give your idea a try also.
Thank you for the advice

so i just got back from trying what you said. I got it to turn about an inch either way. Thats it. I used a allen key with a wrench on the end to get more leveredge. How much is it supposed to turn for adjustment? Any other suggestions

It should move pretty easy, if it's like other honda bearing carriers there will be a bolt screwed into the underside of the swingarm under the carrier it is a stopper so the carrier dosen't go too far you can loosen that and see if it helps someone may have put too long a bolt in and it's rubbing as you move it. The grove to adjust it should move from about straight up and down till the tool you use to adjust it with will hit the ground almost. Maybe try rocking the bike back and forth to loosen it up.
