Default Looking at 2002 Honda Rancher ES 4X4

What is your opinions on this 4-wheeler with electric shift? I have searched and found that some have issues with the electric shift, but they seem overall to be pretty reliable. The guy is asking $1,950, which is a little above NADA avg retail.

They are generally reliable, but as you mentioned the ES system can act up, especially if dunked a lot.

Most of the time it is something pretty simple, like an angle sensor.

Unless it is in spectacular condition, maybe you can get it for a bit less?

Until it was stolen, my 01 Rancher ES was very reliable. The popular "angle sensor" was replaced on a warranty recall and never caused any problem.

Thanks for your input, I am also looking at a 97 Polaris 300. The polaris is about 1K cheaper. The honda is nice, i went and looked at it today. The guy has only had it for 6 months and is looking to sell it. It makes me question, if I am buying someone elses problems. Anything i should look for specifically with this model?
Thanks

The usual things- make sure it runs well, shifts well, doesn't smoke or knock. Also check over the suspension for slop (ball joints, front and rear wheel bearings, stuff like that).
