Have you tried looking on ebay for the kick start assembly my bother just sold my old 86' Honda TRX350 D Foreman 4x4 for $300 about 6 month's ago for a part's quad , i know that the 86' to 88' and maybe the 89' would have worked on the xr400 i don't know if the 99' - 05' 300 TRX300 4x4 had a kick start ; you might find one on ebay there might be a little modification for it to work !

My brother sold the Foreman before i knew he was selling it as a part's quad , it only needed a timing chain and gear kit to get it running again ; i was going to rebuild it myself i could've got the chain and gear set for $75 and top end rebuild kit , Piston , ring's , rist pin , rod and gasket set to rebuild top and bottom end for less than $200 and done the labor for less than he got for the Foreman !

It made me sick when i found out that he had sold it so cheap he could've gotten more parting it out , just before i solod it to my brother had replaced the metal fuel tank that cost $269.98 and $152.50 for new O.E.M Honda Front brake backing plate assemblies with free shipping off ebay these backing plate assemblies would've cost over $250 per side from the local Dealership alone ; plus 4 new tire's and new brake shoe's o the rear .

About the side cover for the 400ex you may luck up finding one on ebay also but check ebay feed back on the seller , there are some good seller's and bad one's on ebay so i alway's check their feed back from buyer's !
