Default 350 honda rancher is over heating after 10mins

Hello
Anyone that can help is much appreciated. I recently purchased a 2002 Honda 350 rancher. After doing some light maintenance, changing the oil, oil filter and rear differential. I also adjusted the ideal under the carburetor because I thought it was to fast; however I have now run into a problem.
Now after riding or just letting it ideal after 5-10mins, the 4wheeler seams to overheat dramatically. The cylinder head fins are all intact nor broken or cracked. I’m not riding it right now because I don’t want to burn up any of the values or crack the cylinder head. Please help!!!

Any information would be helpful thanks
Matt.

how do you know its over heating? i would put a compression tester on the cylinder and see if something is going on there. its do-able but overheating an air cooled motor is difficult for only idleing for 5-10 minutes

It may sound stupid but ckeak your oil filter, MAKE SURE YOU DID PUT IT IN WRONG.
Also ckeck muffller, you may have a slight blockage.

How can you tell if a air cool motor is over heating? The only way you can screw that motor up is, not enough oil, or put the oil filtler in upside down.

I agree with TLC I'm thinking the oil filter is in backwards. I believe your Rancher has a temp light, if so, does the temp light come on?

When I get home tonight I will check the oil filter and make sure it was installed correctly.

oil filter was installed correctly; however i wonder if gas got into the oil somehow? If so is that casue by a problem in the carburetor?

TLC: I can tell its getting to hot becasue the cylinder head is sending to much heat to the muffler and its starting to burning the plastic plate between the gas tank and cylinder head.

Thanks for the help so far.

Check the oil filter and the oil, check the exhaust for blockage, check the area in front of the engine and make sure the is no junk blocking air from coming to the motor.
