Right now I got a 99 300ex with mods listed below. The power is ok I am gettin a 305 kit and cam but the only thing I don't like is that i bottom out on some what little jumps. The 400ex has great suspension.(obviously) THe only thing i am attached to 300ex is that i feel so comfortable on it maybey just because i have ridden it for a long time but Nothin is compared to the 400ex. The only thing that is keepin me from the 400ex is the money. Should I save some money and modify my 300 or wait and try to find a cheap 400ex?

What preload setting do you have your shocks on? I'm 200+ lbs. and on setting 2 (stock) I bottom out pretty regularly. If I set them to setting 3 I rarely bottom, although the ride is stiffer and less plush. Knock your preload up a notch, go riding and let us know what happens.

ex4life-I would agree except for smaller people, for whom the size of the 300 is more appropriate (although the 300 isn't any lighter than the 400). If hondakid15 is only 15 yrs. old, he might still be growing and it might make sense to stick with the 300 for a few more years??? (By then we might see a 650EX???)

i agree with yzguy except for the fact that my 300 seems to boring for me now. I am 5'8 200+ lbs and i really would like a 400ex it is just the money. If any of you guys know some one who is selling a 400 that needs to be fixed or something and is real cheap let me know

hondakid, go to www.cycletrader.com
You should be able to find a great deal on a 400ex there. I agree, sometimes the 300ex just doesn't fit the bill. Save your money on the mods and buy the 400ex. Your ready to move up in the world.
