For most climates 10W40 with API rating SG or higher, and JASO rating MA. The MA rating is specific to motorcycles and specifies it is OK with wet clutch applications. Don't use anything that has Molly or PTFE/Teflon. Honda's GN4 would be fine, along with many other choices.

Filter wise, I prefer to stick to Honda. If you put one in backwards it can block all oil flow. The Honda ones are stamped on the ends.

I agree with Jeffn. Honda GN4 is great. But, since there is not a Honda place near you, Try Rocky Mountain ATV. Great online stuff. They have GN4 but they also have other brands that are basically the same.

You need something JASO MA certified. For a quality yet low price oil, Shell Rotella T works well. Can be found at your local Wal-Mart or autoparts store, usually $12/gallon.

Shell Rotella oil is now JASO MA certified and it's what I use in all 4 of our atvs, as well as my motorcycle.....only I use the synthetic.
