Default 1984 honda 70 3 wheeler

i have been trouble shooting this trike. having problem with the way it runs. if it is on choke the engine responds well when moving throttle. When choke is off the engine mostly has no responce or no throttle from idle to about 1/4 of throttle. Unless i slowly move throttle higher then it will raise . With choke on throttle can be raised instantly and engine responds well. And it tends to back fire or pop when choke is off and i try raising throttle quickly. The carb is working perfect fuel all clear and flowing. any ideas without taking engine apart?

Sounds like the carb. isn't working perfect. Everything you described leads to the pilot or slow jet being clogged. The responds well when on choke, the backfiring from being lean from fuel starvation. I would look closely at the pilot jet, you definately have a fuel delivery problem. No need to tear into the engine.

yesterday i took carb aprt and it was like new inside clean used carb cleaner with straw took every screwor jet out all holes were totally clear. Has new plug, new coil. Is it possible the head gasket could be leaking or valve problem. It runs at the lowest possible idle perfectly without the choke on its only when going into high throttle in a instant. Nothing there then let off gas keeps running.

the gaskets are good and bolts are tight on both ends of intake neck.

the exhaust has been pulled away from engine and no change in performance. No restiction in exhaust pipe.

mabee its an intake leak spray some break clean or wd or propane around the inlet between carb and the head, if the idle changes you have a leak

i sprayed starter fluid around intake and carb no change in engine speed. Sprayed starter fluid in carb. and guess what it caused it to die. Again sprayed inside carb and hit throttle at the same time no change died again
