Default 1998 honda 300 4x4 Need help

Hi Guys/Gals

I am here for my dad seeking info regarding a recent problem he is having.

He has owned his machine since new in 98. never any problems other then basic maintenance.

Recently it will start and run then all of a sudden it stalls and won't start until the machine sits for a short while. I thought maybe his gas cap was plugged but cleaned it and problem still exists. Plug is new and gas is also. He is checking the airbox as we speak.

Any recommendations you have while I'm in the process of trouble shooting and reading would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a plugged fuel filter or a sticky float in the carb. If the filter has never been replaced since new it's more than likely due. Also with 12 years on the bike I'd clean the carb.

When it starts how long will it run? It sounds like the carb is gummed up or has trash in it. It can sit and fill up the float bowl, then when you start it it uses fuel faster than it can get it through the carb and stalls till the bowl fills up again.

It runs for awhile without any issues. Its not just a couple seconds or minutes, more like several minutes or after she warms up real well. If that helps.

He has cleaned the spark arrestor and he has already ran some Seafoam through it.

The filter and float are my next thoughts.
