i have 1999 400ex that i think the rectifier went out on i dont know if thats the problem because the battry isnt charging, but if the rectifier was charging before would it be heating up a bit?

Not familiar with a rectifier but, are you sure the battery is good? Sealed batteries die often. I had an '03 that would pop a fuse under the seat on the left hand side. Once popped I could no longer start it and the battery would not charge but, usually once replaced it would have enough charge to start.

the rectifier is the stator i guess im not for sure, but i just went out there and looked at the fuse and its still good and i changed it but i dont have a charger to recharge the battery so i wont know untill i can charge it or buy a new battery

Ah, stator I'm familiar with. Now that you mention it I do believe I have heard that term before. If your battery is dead and you have no charger, 9:1 odds says you need a new battery either way. These sealed batteries can not handle being completely drained. They often refuse to take a charge after being drained for very long. I just replaced one on my YFZ. I rode one day about a month ago the very next day it wouldn't start. I panicked didn't know what was up. The next day got my charger on it but, would refused to charge. It literally died over night. New battery and all is good.

yeah i was just down at the sanddunes this last weekend and the bike started good the first 3 times then after that i could tell that it was having a hard time starting, so i rode it down the road and shut it off to wait for my buddies and it never started again so i jump started the rest of the weekend.

Ha, sounds like my luck. Goes wrong at the worst possible time. Cross your fingers and hope that it's just the battery. That'll get you up and running the fastest. Where you from? Which dunes did you visit?
