alright so i bought a this quad about 3 days ago and i'm having a concern. So i haven't taken it out for a real ride yet but i do turn it on and ride it from the backyard to the garage. Well when i got it home i took a quick ride around the neighborhood and when i got back it was really hot on the sides. well i let it cool and drove it about 20 yards and the engine got hot. is this normal or should i be concerned

Any mods like exhaust, vented airbox, etc? if it wasn't rejetted after intake or exhaust mods, it would be lean and heat up fast. How is the oil? is it low, or really dirty? that can give you problems too. Keep in mind, this is an air cooled engine, it relies on moving air to keep it cool, if you just putt around in the back yard, it will get hot fast. Does it roll easy in neutral? if the driveline is binding up, that will put more load on the motor. Clutch feel tight? slipped clutch will heat up fast. Lots of things to check, give us a little more info on the quad, and we'll see if we can help you more.

i have a 04 and i noticed it gets really hot too but that's like after 2-3 mins of riding slowly at 20-30 mph i would check the oil and it might be running lean.. i am going to change my oil this weekend and see if that helps i am also going to clean the air filter ill get back to you and see if it helps it!
