Hi guys suuuuper newbie to the forum and to quads... So here goes... First some background. I used to race bicycles and build my own and have since I was 8 first go Matt at 6 and over going fast since I was born. Got a dirtbike a year ago and just sold it cuz I realized it wasn't for me so now I'm experimenting with quads. Just bought a well used Honda trx250x on Craigslist for 850 and I'm wondering if it's worth tricking out and souping up? And a list of parts and work that needs to be done to make it race ready? Or could I race it stock as it is?
Again I'm new at all this so go easy?

 

You can soup a 250X up a lot for racing. But since you're new at quads, I suggest you just ride it and see if you like it first. If it runs, do a few hare scrambles just like it is and see what you think.

And if it turns out that I like it, what things should I upgrade first? And with what?

 

Anything you can put on a 300EX, you can put on a 250X. Pipe & rejet is the biggest thing. Of course tires and depending on riding terrain, sprocket sizes. They offer a 12, 13, 14 & I think 15 toothe for the front. I had a 12 on mine and loved it. No top end but man did it fly off the corners and out of the hole.
