Default 1989 honda trx250x help

i just bought a 1989 honda trx250x for 600.00. the only thing wrong with it the previous owner says is it leaks oil underneath the clutch cover. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem. the guy said there was a new gasket put on but i really dont know. could the threads be stripped so when you tighten the bolts on the cover they dont snug? any ideas let me know thanks

He either lied and reused the old gasket, or pinched the new one and ripped it so it leaks. Do all the bolts feel tight? it may just need to have the side case removed (drain oil first) then take a small wire brush to both surfaces to make sure you have a clean, smooth surface, if a new gasket was put on, but there was a chunk of old gasket left, it would cause a problem with sealing. It just may need a new gasket, worst case, there is a crack or stripped bolt not letting you get a good seal.

There could also be a hairline crack somewhere, like around a bolt hole. JB weld will fix that no problem. You can even drill & tap that stuff, but I would just fill the crack, file it off and don't tighten that particular bolt too tight.
