01 400ex questions

I just ride with my buddy every now and then. The smoke filled the garage and he had no idea about the jet and cam specs, i also checked the oil before we started it and it didnt even register on the dip stick, Said he put the correct amount in

Like budedm said if you have any doubts pass it up. With the 400ex you have to let it warm up for a few min to get a accurate oil level reading. But if the smoke was so bad it filled up the garage I would pass.

That tick can be the cam chain. They are known to stretch. A new chain maybe in order.

You have to be careful with that. My bro went to long ignoring the tick. We knew what was wrong but tryed make it last through the fall. Tore onto it and found we broke the guide inside there. We were Lucky it didn't tear things up.

You raise a good point. If you know what a 400ex sounds like, its one thing. But if you dont, someone could think the sound of the cam chain slapping around is the famous ex tick. If the ex in question had a aftermarket cam....
