i have a 2003 honda foreman rubicon 500 its a hondamatic with electric shift d1 d2 and esp. i was riding it for an hour and rode well. i shut it off for 15 mins and started it back up and it wouldnt leave 1st gear for some reason ive tried everything. now when you put it in reverse it just sputters. and when you put it in drive it goes 2 mph. it starts up and idles nice i dont know what else to do. it seems like the transmission is in lock mode. i did the trouble shoot. the neutral light blinks 5 times so thats a code 5 an angle sensor or anything transmission related down those lines. i took all the sensors apart and cleaned them and re greased them. i changed the oil. i bought a brand new battery for it. i rebuilt the carb 2 weeks ago. fresh gas in the tank. none of the brakes are stuck. the throttles perfect. someone please help me out on what it can be. if the motor is in lock mode how do you unlock it. if anyone has any ideas please call me or message me back thanks. 570-219-3098 names jake

You should first make sure your electical system is working properly because a faulty regulator/ rectifier, pulse generator or stator can make it do funny things. First disconnect the battery for 10min. Then reconnect the battery and crank and idle. Check your voltage at the battery while its idling it should read 12.50 to 13.67 while testing rev it up to around 5000 the voltage should read around 14.50 -15.50. If that checks out then move on to retrieving any codes.
In neutral with the switch off, simultaneously push up and down switch buttons at the same time. Turn the ignition switch on and quickly release the up and down buttons. Push the up and down buttons again for 5 seconds then release. Your trouble code (--) should appear. The code will flash a sequence so you have to count the number of flashes to determine your trouble code and it will be from 1-12 flashes if theres a problem. If you get 8,9,10,11 or 12 of these (--) it will be ECM related. If a N appears the attempt failed or the systems back to normal. If the dashes are rapid and unobtainable there is a system failure for sure.
