What happens when some one applies too much filter oil on foam air filter?

Wash it with dish washing soap, let it dry and don't use so much when you re oil it.

Running it with too much could cause a rich running condition and if it's really dripping with oil, some could go in to the intake and foul the plug.

Too much fuel. With too much oil, the air won't flow through the filter as it's designed. Since less air is going in, but the fuel mix is still the same you'll get more fuel than normal in the combustion cycle.

Thanks Scootergptx.
So in rich running condition, do you lose power and or exhaust will have more smoke coming out? I guess gas mileage will also go down in that situation. If that happens, how to correct it?

In my case, I checked my filter 5 minutes ago after your response. It was not dripping or something. But since fluid was blue, filter (yellow) has taken blue color. I touched filter with paper towel to take away extra oil and towel did not catch much so I think oil should be appropriate. This was my first attempt at cleaning air filter.

Just a note, most oils will color the filter. The k&n oil I use for our cars turns them red, so it's not an usual thing.

Thanks Scootergptx,
I knew this. The color gives us an indication of that filter has been oiled. I was not sure how much is good enough. My filter looked pretty good blue from outside and inside. Your advised gave me an idea of how much to use. So in future, I am going to spray oil (after cleaning and drying foam filter), put in a zip lock and wait for an hour to see if it is dripping. If not then take it to ATV.
