Default Do you rotate your air filter?

I don't ride as much as I'd like so when I do get the quad out to go, I usually rotate the air filter so the oil that has migrated to the bottom is now on top. I use a good filter oil (the sticky stuff) and have a UNI filter. I wonder if rotating helps or if it's necessary?

I have not done that yet. But it sounds a good idea. I have found the bottom side of the filter always has more oil. So even though rotation involves more work, it sounds a good idea.

Some of the oil is blow back from the crackcase vent hose I would guess.

That's right, but some of that is certainly a little extra oilgoing to bottom side due to gravity I guess.

Yes. That's what I am compensating for when I rotate. I mean, say I ride it for 2 hours and then it sits for a month. Certainly the oil at the bottom is not from blowback, it's from gravity.

I am also of the opinion, that unless you use to spray oil judiciously, any extra oil is going to settle on bottom side of foam filter due to gravity. Rotation is a good idea in any case.

Do you use grease before tightening the screw on filter assembly?

That has absolutely never crossed my mind, when I first read the heading I thought why in the world would you ever rotate your air filter. Then after I read everything you guys changed my mind. I think from now on I will try it and see how it works out.

That's funny. I assumed everybody did this. It was just something that I figured was normal to do. I didn't realize that I was "starting" something. I'm usually the last one to come up with ideas.
